Planning permission granted for Ellen Badger Hospital Redevelopment

Posted: 21 March 2022

Planning permission has been received for Phase One of the redevelopment plan for Ellen Badger Hospital and Shipston Medical Centre in Shipston on Stour.

In March 2022 the Planning Officer gave the great light for the plans, which has been designed by ONE, to fulfil South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trusts’ vision for a new truly integrated Health and Wellbeing Hub which is modern, fully compliant and responds to current/future healthcare requirements.

The new integrated community hub, which is designed to BREEAM Excellent, will bring a range of services under one roof with 30+ clinical rooms. It will integrate Primary Care services currently provided from Shipston Medical Centre and will transform healthcare in the area.

The site’s potential is being maximised making the most of the views of the river to enhance patient experience and providing access to the riverfront for community wellbeing. The new facility will adhere to the most innovative care delivery models, where patients do not necessarily visit the Wellbeing Hub only when they have an appointment, but use the facility and its landscaped gardens as a community space, allowing for more informal interactions with health care specialists.

This is a complex project with a phased delivery, which will help reduce disruption to key healthcare services during the construction phase. Phase One will now see the old hospital and one house demolished and replaced with the new hub. This is great news with South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) and Shipston Medical Centre announcing that they will now appoint a main contractor to carry out the work at the Stratford Road site.

Further details about the design is available here.
