ONE Creative environments (ONE) is delighted to have been appointed for the design of the proposed new commercial and cultural hub in Bromsgrove.
The multi-disciplinary design company, which has a HQ in Worcester as well as offices in London, Birmingham and Cardiff, is designing this landmark development on behalf of Bromsgrove District Council, working with the council’s economic development service NWedR.
The proposed new commercial and cultural hub builds on the success of The Bird Box, which was also designed by ONE, and proposes two exciting new buildings and a greener public realm on the Former Market Hall site.
The first building, The Pavilion, has been designed as a multipurpose community asset with an open plan arrangement encouraging creative exhibitions, markets, and community use during the day, evenings, and weekends. The second building, the Commercial building, has provision for a quality food and drink business on the ground floor to add to the night-time economy, provides outdoor social space within the newly created public realm, and includes some premium quality commercial office space.
Sustainability is key to the design, with the development being designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating and celebrates Bromsgrove’s heritage, for example, through the use of metal work within the building to create striking street scenes that sit in harmony with the local area and celebrate Bromsgrove’s industrial history.
Head of Economic Development & Regeneration at NWEDR, Ostap Paparega, said: “With a scheme of this magnitude, which could transform the town centre, it was important to choose our collaborators carefully for the benefit of our residents. One Creative will be excellent partners for this development and their local roots and knowledge have already been a significant advantage to the project team. The designs they have created are outstanding and we look forward to working with them further to see these plans become a reality.”
Mark Martin, Director at ONE, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been appointed for this fantastic project.”
“Having previously designed the Bird Box, which was always a meanwhile use until permanent development could be made, we know the site well and how much this exciting new development could further benefit local people and businesses.”
