Lifehouse Elim Church

ONE’s multi-disciplinary team was commissioned for the internal refurbishment of a Grade II Listed church,
which included incorporating the neighbouring former residential property, to improve and enhance the existing
church facilities.

Project Overview

ONE’s design combined these two properties into one cohesive building with creative solutions to make the most of the available space and maximise light, while always respecting the listed building’s original features.

The design opens up the existing worship hall whilst keeping and enhancing the original features to allow for better flow between the two buildings, which also creates a larger function room when it is needed. A multi-functional space is, therefore, being created which is suitable for larger events as well as a meeting room, a new kitchen/servery and café, improved welfare facilities, a new welcoming reception area and a play space/creche for children.

ONE conducted a structural survey on the Grade II Listed Building and then proposed structural alterations to bring the two properties together. The team co-ordinated a bespoke three arched lintel for the façade of the front elevation which now shows one unified building. The result is an enhanced street scene with a cohesive frontage to the buildings with a new rendered and arched glazing frontage on the main street, mirroring that of the existing church building.
